Research Report Format

Research Report FormatThe Research Report Format as defined by the APA is a product of the major research groups in various fields of specialization such as biology, psychology, sociology, psychiatry, medical science and social science. The APA is committed to encourage research and education that are based on sound scientific methods of systematic research and results analysis.APA has changed its Research Report Format to suit the evolving trends in research methodology in order to keep pace with modern needs of research. The research report format as defined by the APA is one of the most popular formats used in the industry today. The APA Research Report Format was first introduced in 1973, when the Federal Council for Advancement of Science and Technology (FCCAT) introduced a standard format for grants and funding applications in the United States. In 1980, the Office of Technology Transfer of the FCCAT recommended that the format be adopted by other government agencies, and it bec ame an official recommendation of the agency in 1981.A number of factors were considered while adopting the Research Report Format by the APA. The Research Report Format has been named after the committee who defined it. Members of the committee included Arthur E. Briggs; John M. Grohol; Robert B. Correll; Donald P. Haigh; Lewis M. Gould; Edward Karpinck; Helen P. Koziol; Arthur R. Gordon; Joseph S. Levine; David W. Lerner; Michael F. Myers; and Charles J. Scheffer. Some of the features of the Research Report Format include: clear, unambiguous description of the purpose and expected results; inclusion of references, if any; statement of methodological preferences; provision for completion of questions and evaluations; inclusion of a referee; translation of figures and tables into appropriate Language. The format was designed so that it can be easily understood by the general public as well as the researchers in a given field. It also requires specific details about the objectives and methods of the study to be performed. Information on the proposed methods and the reasons for conducting the study should be provided.Another feature of the Research Report Format is that it must be clearly presented in a standard format and must be distributed in legible form. Only legible copy can be distributed or returned to the sponsors. These are just some of the benefits of the APA Research Report Format. If you have any idea or opinion about this format or anything related to it, you can submit it online to the APA website.
